Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik

So I was Goodwill shopping again last Friday, at the location by my work. The place was packed and I've wondered why but realized that it's the day before Halloween and people are trying to find some last minute costumes. I was there to shop. Simply shop.

I only scored a maroon curdoroy skirt and a leopard print top. I also found a vintage purse that has the "quilted" look.

But the best treasure that I found was Outkast's 1994 Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik. I unfortunately missed out on their pre-Stankonia music. When Outkast released Southern, I was still getting over Kurt Cobain's suicide and was still wrapped up in Seattle's Grunge music. Hiphop lovers were still a minority back then, in the urban youths of the archipelago of my birth - The Philippines.

With Outkast's Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik, I feel so priveledged to listen to hiphop before it became what it is today - a novelty for the mass market. I'm not cool enough bust the right moves for this pre mass market gem . I suck at making a mean expression as I bop my head to it. I find myself wishing I know the words to the lyrical treat that I am hearing. Saved for the "n" words which I still feel uncomfortable to hear. I listen to it on my 60-mile drive to work and the other 60-mile drive back home. This was hiphop that talks about the struggles and the socio political observations of these artists. I listen to it and I feel riveted and it sweetly courses through my veins and my ears.

I honestly feel like a nerd for reviewing a hip hop album because I feel like I don't have the "street cred" for it. :D , let alone, one that is a work of art by Outkast. But I'll do it for my love of music. So, let me continue . I love the beats and the groove and I want to give a shout out to the Genius known as Organized Noize.

I feel so sorry for the fool who decided to send it to Goodwill, but I still want to thank that fool because I now have Southerplayalisticadillacmuzik.

I bought several more albums - some of which I've already had but couldn't find . I will review them some other time. For now, I want to savor my respect for the talents of Big Boi and Andre. Thank you for making music. It's been 6 years since Speakerboxx/The Love Below. I hope to hear more of y'all :D. You've had me at Stankonia but I'm sure it would've went further than that had I known about Outkast in the early 90s.
