Suicide Barrier

...with a price tage of 50M


The Golden Gate Bridge - iconic , eye catching - it's hard to imagine San Francisco without it.

But this beauty also draws a darkness about her like a moth to a flame. It has been said that someone jumps off this bridge to commit suicide every two weeks.

I know a couple of people, one of them was so heart broken when his fiance' broke up with him to be with another man, he went to the bridge and called his mom to say goodbye but his mom talked some sense into him. I'm happy he didn't succumb to despair because he is now happily married to one of my friends :).

I've seen the documentary film The Bridge where it featured families and friends of those who had jumped. It also featured one of the two who sruvived the jump, as well as disturbing footage of suicide jumpers.


So , it has been talked about for years - this suicide barrier. Environmentalists say it messes up the birds and the butterfles around the area. Some locals say it ruins the aesthetics of the bridge. This barrier would be a steel net that would extend like a wing 20 feet out from the sides of the bridge.

50 million - I think Victoria Secret should chip in, in memory of their founder Roy Raymond who in 1993 jumped to his death from the Golden Gate Bridge, he was 47.
