The roads were winding and the the locals are just riding our rear bumper; headlights glare, reflectiong off the rear view mirror as we drove up to the client's residence.
"Jackass stop riding my @ss!", D said irritably as she pulled the Toyota Sienna over to the shoulder to let a local resident passed with such reckless speed up the narrow winding road of Topanga Canyon.
The house was tucked on a woody hillside with an incredibly short but steep driveway. As we hauled our equipments up the concrete steps, our heavy breathing took in the scent of leaves, tree bark and Eucalyptus. The birds were chirping their symphony as civil twilight descends upon the canyon.
The investigation had some highlights - from Dave's box putting sounds together to say "Heidi, I love you." only when the resident Heidi, walks by it. We debunked some rapping noises as a house rat hiding in the crawlspace. I caught some interesting EVPs which I gave Dave a listen to. One said " Stop What?" and "I'm here." in my recorder.
The rods were utilized and it is moving but how much of it is just our shaky hands and breathing? The response to the rods states that it is some sort of Wind or Air Spirit. Air spirits are supposed to help out people with artistic inclinations. Air or wind spirits are known to reside up in mountains. Kabala also has their Wind Angel. The client Heidi, lives up in the hills of Topanga Canyon, she is a writer. Maybe it's Hollywood SoCal thing but she is also a Kabala practictioner :D.
Saint Mel Church
I was the youngest one there but I am not there for othe people or for the priest. I am there to make time with God. I sat on the pew closest to the front as the priest celebrated early Saturday Mass. Adjacent to the church is what appears to be a school. The Eucharist-First Communion art projects in beautifully cut felt on medieval-stle banners were impressive and further made me conclude that these were projects of school children. It brought me back to my first communion days but that's another story :D.
My conscience is bugging me right now. It is telling me " You only have one photo of the church and so many of the other things."
But my love for God is beyond the photos that I took and God knows what is in my heart.
Outside The Investigation
My friends and I just LOVE the place across our Best Western Hotel called...Jerry's Deli or something like that. The menu is an endless array of comfort food from just about every popular non-American cuisine and American alike. We also walked down Hollywod Blvd on the walk of fame stars. We took photos at the Kodak theatre where hustlers in smelly Batman and Spiderman costume for a $1, can have their photo taken with an unsuspecting tourist. It's bizarre how this is where they do the Oscars and American Idol. I've been there once with friends as well. We ooh-ed and ahh-ed over walk of fame names we recognize. The Hollywood strip is really unapologetically touristy - we walked by costume shops, bong shops, Vintage shops etc etc.
We went inside a Magic Shoppe that has been there since the 60s. It is off the beaten tourist trap of the Hollywood Strip maybe a block away from it. We just happen upon. This place is charming. There is a wall lined with bottled apothecary "stuff", herbs and also the poisonous. The most intruiging addition to the ambiance of the store is the friendly store keeper working behind the counter. One has to walk the talk and she adds credibility to the place because she is wearing her witch garb. I will not be surprised to find out that she is indeed a practicing witch. Imagine that, just a few blocks from the strip.
I can't wait to go back to Southern California. I can't see myself living there though.
