Tripod Dog...

So this dog walked into our lives and I am still ambivalent about it. They say he's a 3-year-old tan Manchester Terrier. His name is Chico and he is painfully shy, timid ...scared. He looks at you uncertainly with his big brown eyes... walks towards you every so slowly and ready to flinch at every big movement you make. He lifts on leg up and stands on all three with his tail and ears tucked in and will not move an inch even if his eyelids are getting heavy with sleep... My brother said Chico is his friend's dog and he needs a new home.

So on day two, I've decided to do some "bonding" time with the little guy and cut up some porkchops for him and rice with barbeque sauce and corn. It took a grueling 20 minutes for him to even come up to me and he won't eat from his bowl, after a few sniffs of the pork chop and a few licks he finally ate the pork chop and ate from his bowl selectively eating the porkchops only.

UPDATE

It is now June 6, 2009 and Chico turned out to be a Reindeer Chihuahua and he is 4 years old. He is now settled in our home. He is no longer the scared and shy dog he once was. He greets us as we open the front door with tail wags and a smile. He offers his furry cheek for kisses and snuggles up to use at every chance he gets. He loves to be under the covers and goes berserk when he sees us prepping his leash and harness. He likes to mark his territory in our walks and likes to make friends with other doggies.

He doesn't give doggie kisses which is ok because of the stuff he licks from our walk sometimes. I've only heard bark three times . The first was when he was stuck at the backyard and he wanted to get in. The second was when he barked at the washing machine as it makes its motion noises and a third was when he thought there was no one in the house and was looking for us and he started to howl.

He howls when he feels "abandoned" and when there is no one in the house but him or thinks there is no one in the house but him. When Dave brought over Shawn and his Chihuahua ,Chico and Rudy ran and played in the backyard for almost an hour. When Shawn, Dave and Rudy left while I was upstairs, I heard this pitiful howling from downstairs. I went downstairs to find Chico, standing on all three with one leg up howling in the middle of the living room. He stopped when he saw me. Probably when he realized he wasn't alone.

....so that Chico , the cannine who unexpectedly walked into our front door and into our hearts.
