Post Office is Beaune, France

Cindy and I were standing inline inside the PO in Beaune, France September of last year. Somewhere in our conversation D Day was brought up. She said her father was a US Soldier stationed in the Philippines back in WW2. I told her my grandfather was a soldier fighting side by side with US Soldiers during WW2. Let me start by saying, I fully respect all of those who serve to protect this country - and I mean everyone. Besides Europe, at the the otherside of the world, there were also soldiers offering their lives, blood and honor to protect the world. This was in the Pacific. My Grandfather who was in med school when the war broke out, couldn't continue his education because of the war so he decided to be a soldier and to fight side by side with fellow Filipino soldiers and US Soldiers. It was hard to believe that Lolo, a man of such quiet disposition and almost dainty manners was out there fighting. He is so gentle mannered he couldn't hurt a fly. He told us that he did not shoot or fired at the enemy during the war. That he was just aimlessly firing. He said he would let Japanese soldiers go once they get captured. When he was in Death March and was walking thru the villages , there were civillians lined up at the street giving water and food to the soldiers. He was able to get out of The March with the aid of civilians but his conscience made him come back as he thought of his friends that were still marching away and continued to march with them all the way. There were 6 sons and 4 daughters in his family and he was the only one who joined the military. That is just one story and there are thousands more that might not never be known. So while there was Project Neptune and Ovelord beaching up in Normandy, let's also remember the ones who fought in the Pacific during World War Two. Thank you.
